Philly Cheesesteak Sliders with Garlic Butter Recipe

Completed pan of Philly Cheesesteak Sliders with garlic butter on the side

It’s lunch, the kids are up, it’s time to enlist them into cooking prep. If you haven’t already made your kids honorary sous-chefs in your kitchen, this is a great recipe to start them on. One of my 13-year-old’s favorite meals, this simple, delicious Mother’s Day meal idea focuses on the flavor of the steak mixed with sumptuous cheese.

Prep your ingredients and start with an assembly line, letting your kids put together the sliders before you bake them. If you’ve got your phone handy, be sure to film the assembly process so you can show mom that the meal was a family effort.

Steak Quesadilla Recipe

Completed, grilled steak quesadillas recipe

The ultimate kid-friendly dish, this recipe is a fantastic Mother’s Day meal idea. Make your kids honorary waiters, and have them ask mom for a custom quesadilla order. Then, have them help you assemble the quesadillas before you grill them—it’s a family affair that keeps you all involved.

My steak quesadillas are loaded with leftover steak and plenty of cheese. They’re a sure-fire crowd-pleaser, even if you have picky eaters in your family. If you’ve got older kids, assign them the pico de gallo prep and let them brag to mom about their culinary skills.

Sous Vide Filet Mignon

Filet mignon with crab stuffed mushroom caps

For dinner, let the kids play while you make some delectable grownup dishes. Get a couple of fantastic filets, light some candles, and serve mom this meal fit for a queen. My sous vide filet mignon is not only the perfect way to impress mom, it also has a bit of a time bonus for you. Since we’re using the sous vide method, you’ll have about ninety minutes of free time while the filets are cooking to prep your side dishes and desserts. You can also use this downtime to hang out with mom and open up a bottle of wine—your choice.

The key to my sous vide filet mignon is the slow cooking in the water bath followed by a quick reverse sear on a cast iron skillet. This ensures your filets go through the Maillard Reaction, meaning they have a delicious seared crust around perfectly cooked tender steak.

Cheesy Creamed Spinach

We’ve got the steak covered, so let’s get a side dish on the plate as well. This spinach dish is a favorite in my home—there’s enough cheese on it that picky eaters probably won’t even realize it’s a green vegetable. It’s the perfect sophisticated pairing with the filet and another recipe that looks much harder than it is.

This is another easy Mother’s Day recipe, so be sure to prep it and start it cooking about halfway through the sous vide bath on the filet mignon—that way everything will be ready together!
