The Perfect Homemade Creole Seasoning

Creole Seasoning assembled and ready to use

There are certain spices that are either too difficult to make at home, or the difference between making them yourself versus buying pre-made store-bought stuff just doesn’t justify the resources spent making them. In those cases, I say just get something off the shelf. That is certainly not the case with the perfect homemade Creole seasoning recipe put together here.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s likely cheaper than a packaged Creole seasoning and it’s pretty easy to make. As far as taste…this stuff is about a million times better than prepackaged Creole seasoning.

I find the prepackaged stuff is just sort of boring, like drinking a beer that’s been opened for 3-4 hours. There’s flavor, but it’s flat. That changes once you start using this homemade Creole seasoning that I’ve played around with for a long time to get the perfect blend of spices.

Keep in mind, Creole seasoning is supposed to have a bite to it, but if you prefer a bit less of a bite try omitting the red pepper flakes. I prefer a bit more of a spicy bite, but I recognize that not everyone does so keep that in mind.

What Is Creole Seasoning Used For?

Homemade Creole seasoning is very versatile. Most people associate it only with seafood, specifically shrimp. I use it in my low country boil and it’s amazing. Don’t limit yourself to only seafood though.

Homemade Creole seasoning is a perfect match for veggies like corn, broccolini, brussels sprouts, and yams. It’s great on snacks like popcorn, homemade apple chips and deviled eggs, and proteins like pork chops, bacon, pork loin, and chicken. The point is, don’t get boxed into just seafood with this seasoning, make enough to last a while, and store in an airtight glass jar and experiment away. This is one spice blend that you should always keep in your spice cabinet.
